WATR’s Sensor-Agnostic Platform Opens Doors for Specialist Sensor Collaborations
A new real-time, low-maintenance sensor system is transforming how pollution in UK rivers and coastal waters is detected and managed, delivering continuous, actionable water quality data for improved environmental protection.

WATR has shown how real-time water monitoring can revolutionise pollution detection, thanks to its sensor-agnostic platform. In a recent deployment tackling water quality challenges from sewer overflows and agricultural runoff, WATR collaborated with specialist sensor manufacturer Chelsea Technologies Ltd to install UviLux sensors at a coastal catchment site.
The partnership enabled WATR to integrate Chelsea Technologies Ltd sensors—which detect bacterial activity and organic contaminants—into its scalable monitoring system. The result was continuous, high-quality data that helped identify pollution events in real time and offered insights far beyond what traditional manual sampling could achieve.
What made the collaboration possible is WATR’s open and flexible platform architecture. Being sensor-agnostic, the WATR system can incorporate the most appropriate sensor technologies for each specific challenge—whether detecting nutrients, bacteria, or chemical pollutants—without being locked into a single hardware provider.
This flexibility not only ensures the best available tools are used to solve complex environmental problems, but also opens the door to future collaborations with a wide range of specialist manufacturers. With sensors like UviLux proving durable, low-maintenance, and highly reliable, WATR’s model represents a major step forward in intelligent, sustainable water monitoring across both coastal and inland environments.
