Flexible Pricing Models: Data-as-a-Service - Future-Ready Water Quality Monitoring
WATR introduces a new flexible pricing model with Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) offering, making advanced water monitoring technology accessible to everyone from small fisheries to large-scale utilities.

In today’s world, access to accurate, real-time water data is not a luxury – it’s essential. At WATR, our mission is to make advanced water monitoring technology accessible to everyone, from small fisheries to large-scale utilities. That’s why we’ve introduced a new flexible pricing model, designed to give our customers choice, reduce upfront costs, and simplify long-term operations.
Traditionally, many organisations have purchased monitoring technology outright, with a capital expenditure (CAPEX) model. While this provides ownership of the equipment, it also comes with ongoing commitments: maintenance, data subscriptions, software updates, and the burden of managing complex support agreements. For some, this works well. But for many others – particularly smaller businesses or those needing to scale quickly – the CAPEX route creates barriers.
To address this, we’re proud to launch our Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) offering. Instead of owning the hardware outright, customers can now opt for a subscription-based service where equipment, maintenance, support, and data delivery are bundled into one package. This reduces upfront investment and ensures clients always have the most reliable, up-to-date system working in the background.
The benefits of DaaS are clear:
- Progressive technology – systems are always kept at the cutting edge.
- Maintenance and upgrades included – new technology can be incorporated seamlessly as part of the plan.
- Continuous innovation – the very latest advancements are seamlessly integrated throughout the D-a-a-S period.
Our CEO, Glyn Cotton, explains:
We recognise that not every customer wants to tie up capital in hardware ownership. By introducing Data-as-a-Service, we’re removing barriers and creating a level playing field - whether you’re a small business monitoring local water quality, or a utility overseeing infrastructure across an entire region. It’s about giving our customers choice, flexibility, and peace of mind.
Glyn Cotton, CEO, WATR
For small businesses like fisheries or aquaculture operators, this model provides predictability. Instead of worrying about equipment breakdowns or unexpected repair bills, they pay a single monthly fee. This not only makes budgeting simpler but also gives them confidence that their critical operations are supported by world-class technology and expert care.
For larger enterprises, such as water utilities or government procurement teams, the subscription model offers scalability. Projects can be rolled out more quickly, with predictable operating expenditure (OPEX) rather than heavy upfront CAPEX. This aligns with modern procurement strategies that prioritise efficiency, risk management, and total cost of ownership over time.
Another significant advantage is agility. With Data-as-a-Service, organisations can adapt more easily to changing needs. New sensors can be deployed as required, with no long delays waiting for approval of capital budgets. As water challenges – from climate change to population growth – become more urgent, this speed and flexibility are invaluable.
Our goal is to empower our customers. Flexible pricing isn’t just about lowering costs – it’s about ensuring that water management solutions are accessible, sustainable, and responsive to real-world challenges.
Glyn Cotton, CEO, WATR
We believe the future of water monitoring lies in choice. By offering both traditional purchase and flexible subscription options, we give our customers the freedom to select the model that best fits their needs – today and tomorrow.
