WATR Shortlisted for Two Prestigious Awards at Environmental Monitoring Awards 2025
WATR has been shortlisted for two Environmental Monitoring Awards 2025 for our role in the Smart Biosphere project, showcasing our innovative real-time water quality sensor technology and impact on protecting UK rivers and coasts.

WATR is proud to announce that we have been shortlisted in two categories at the Environmental Monitoring Awards 2025, hosted by the WWEM Expo and AQE Expo—a recognition of excellence in environmental monitoring, water quality innovation, and technological impact.
Shortlisted Categories:
- Best Real-Time Water Quality Monitoring Project
- Innovative Sensor Technology Implementation
These nominations celebrate our critical role in delivering the Smart Biosphere – North Devon Real-Time Digital Catchment Monitoring Project, led by the Biosphere Foundation and supported by national partners including the Environment Agency, Siemens, CGI, IGI, Amazon, Ordnance Survey, Rothamsted Research, and Southwest Water.
At the heart of this groundbreaking project is WATR’s intelligent sensor infrastructure—deployed across challenging and remote terrain to enable real-time monitoring of water quality in the UK’s first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Our solar-powered, AI-integrated sensor units provide continuous, high-resolution data to detect, predict, and prevent pollution events, contributing to improvements at key locations like Combe Martin beach.
The Smart Biosphere is a powerful example of how real-time data and environmental innovation can protect our rivers and coasts. We’re proud to have delivered the sensor and data infrastructure that made this possible.
